Park Place Gets A Perk

Tucked within a Norfolk neighborhood lies The Coffee Tree, a new charming shop to get caffeinated. The husband-and-wife-owned coffee spot made its debut in June, offering its visitors some of the finest java around.

Well-worn brick, high ceilings and a gallery wall adorned with artwork from local artists complete the space filled with mismatched, colorful tables. Look no further for your next cup of joe, Italian soda or an assortment of other delightful mid-morning elixirs.

Syrups galore grace the menu: watermelon, strawberry, lavender, vanilla, of course, and other beloved sweeteners can spike your soda or coffee, which is locally roasted by Norfolk Coffee & Tea. Rose syrup was my pick for my latte. Even on a near 90-degree day, the barista recommended it served hot so that the rose essence would be more prominent with each frothy sip.

When you’re coffee-d out, The Coffee Tree also whips up all-fruit smoothies—no added sweeteners here! Complement your beverage of choice with one of their croissant sandwiches, omelets or salads, and you, my friend, are primed for an early afternoon of coffee shop comfort.

The Coffee Tree is located at 2819 Colonial Ave., Norfolk. Hours are Tuesday–Thursday 7 a.m.–3 p.m., Friday and Saturday 7 a.m.–5 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m.–2 p.m. Visit their Facebook page at for more information.
