Outtakes: Sensational Singles 2014

We had such a blast spending the day in Norfolk’s up-and-coming Chelsea Business District with our 20 Sensational Singles. During the photo shoot with Amanda Hedgepeth Photography, we got to know the group a little better, and after six pizzas, a couple beers and a photobomb, we were all friends by the end of the day.

The Muse Writers Center was kind enough to let us use their classrooms as our home base for the day where the singles got primped and pampered with hair and makeup by Heather Pierce Greene and Kristan Barclay of Dolce Vita Salon & Spa, Yorktown. From there, we took groups to eclectic locales throughout Chelsea.

We took time to smell the roses—err, orchids—at New Leaf, got dramatic at Little Theatre of Norfolk and made use of the vibrant wall at The Birch. Everyone might agree that lunch was the best part of the day because we ordered mouthwatering, wood-fired pizzas from The Bakehouse and chowed down until nearly every slice had disappeared. We arrived at Smartmouth just as they were about to erase a really awesome mural on their gigantic blackboard—and of course we returned later for beers and trivia. A tour of Otzi Tattoo Agency was like visiting a museum, and we all enjoyed gazing at the creepy dolls, stuffed animals (the taxidermy kind, not the Care Bear kind) and real life skull. When it was time for another break, we enjoyed some beers and calamari at Orapax Restaurant, and we ended the day at Tortilla West, just in time to partake in those magnificent 85ȼ tacos.

Learn more about this year's Sensational Singles and remember that they'll all be up for live auction at our Sensational Singles Soiree on Thursday, Nov. 13 at Eagles Nest Rockin Country Bar, Chesapeake!
