Intro to Health Habits

When we think about fitness, perhaps images of rail-thin models or men flexing giant biceps around a gym come to mind. Unrealistic end goals and preconceived notions about the fitness community may intimidate some of us and cause us to shy away from realizing our own potential. It is important to realize when starting our own journeys that fitness is not defined by a particular elite body type or a specific number of calories you burn everyday. It isn’t about being thinner than the person on the treadmill next to yours. It’s about pushing yourself to be better than you were yesterday.

That’s what this blog is about. The love of fitness is not just a desire to lose a certain amount of weight or achieve a specific body fat percentage. Fitness is a way of life; it is the desire to better yourself daily—not to achieve one specific goal but to achieve a lifestyle of optimal health and wellness. Having the right mindset about what fitness means to you is the first and most important step to getting into shape and staying healthy and happy throughout your life.

No matter what your current situation may be, if you have a positive perspective about fitness, as well as a lot of patience, perseverance and discipline, then you have everything you need to reach your potential. I believe that it takes a lot of hard work and dedication to become healthy and fit, so you won’t be hearing about any fad diets or get-thin-quick schemes here. I will never tell you to count your calories, buy only items that are labeled organic and non-fat or deprive yourself of food in order to lose weight. Instead, you will hear about the best kinds of foods to eat and how to eat to enhance your health and performance. Likewise, I will not tell you that you need to train for a half marathon or burn 1,000 calories on the elliptical everyday. I will go over the most effective ways to work out in order to promote fat loss, build muscle and become a stronger, more energetic individual.

My hope is that with my experience, the expert advice I have received from the fitness community and the results I see happening everyday around me, I will be able to provide not only helpful information but also encouragement and inspiration for anyone seeking to lead a healthy, fitness-oriented life.
