Eating Fresh, Eating Local
Farm to feast week celebrates regional foods one bite at a time
Eating fresh and eating local is more than a trend— it is a way most people dined before the proliferation of canned, frozen and preserved foods that hit in the early- to mid-last century, which still bombards us today.
It’s better to eat fresh and eat local; the food tastes better and more money stays in the area economy.
It’s also easier now than ever to go back to the future with the many farmers markets now open across Hampton Roads, offering items that include meat, produce and seafood from regional fields and streams. Many restaurants also celebrate our food and foodways with menus that reflect seasonally available offerings.
