East Coast Prepares for ‘Frankenstorm’

Dubbed "the perfect storm" or "Frankenstorm," Hurricane Sandy has already killed 21 in the Caribbean and is barreling towards the U.S., where it could bring a mix of high winds, heavy rains, extreme tides, and even snow as early as Sunday. At least $1 billion of damage is anticipated as the storm creeps up the East Coast. The State of Virginia has issued a state of emergency in preparation for landfall. (Source)

$25 million Va. Beach Rec Center Opens

Virginia Beach’s new Williams Farm Recreation Center opens today at 4 p.m. with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The new center includes a water slide that exits the building and then comes back in, as well as an indoor gym and track, fitness classroom, exercise machines with individual touch screen, outdoor courts, a rock climing wall and multimedia center. Nanny Allegedly Stabs Children in NYC

On Thursday, a mother returned to her apartment and found two of her children fatally stabbed in the bathtub. The nanny lay nearby with an allegedly self-inflicted slash to her throat, holding a bloody knife. The nanny has not been identified, but was arrested and taken to the hospital, where she is not expected to survive. (Source)
