Colorado movie theater shooter identified and in custody

Twelve moviegoers are confirmed to be dead and dozens are injured in Aurora, Colorado after a gunman opened fire at the midnight premiere of The Dark Knight Rises. The alleged shooter, 24-year-old James Holmes, is now in police custody. Holmes entered the theater with a gas mask, and threw an explosive device before he started shooting. President Obama and the Republican candidate, Mitt Romney, are expected to give statements on the shooting. (Source)

George Zimmerman says shooting was part of “God’s plan"

In a televised interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity, George Zimmerman apologizes for the shooting of Florida teenager Trayvon Martin. Zimmerman is out on $1 million bail, and says that he’s open to talking to Martin’s parents about the night of the shooting. Tracy Martin, father of Trayvon Martin, refuted Zimmerman’s statement that his son’s death was part of God’s plan. (Source)

Man charged with shooting Norfolk barber in 2010

A 29-year-old man was charged with robbery and homicide Thursday after a two and a half year investigation. Dahson Danta Iraldo was arrested on an unrelated misdemeanor and later charged with the robbery of the barber shop. Iraldo allegedly robbed the barbershop and shot Henry McIntosh Sr. on April 17, 2010. The McIntosh family is thankful to police and believe they can start healing since the arrest. (Source)

USS Elrod returns to Norfolk after 6 months

Families welcomed home military members this morning in Norfolk after being out to sea for 6 months. The USS Elrod was responsible for Operation Martillo, “a drug patrol operation in coastal waters along the Central American isthmus.” The crew completed seven successful missions and seized various drugs with a street value of $850 million, and also rescued four people from their sinking boat.
