Dr. Mitchell received his M.D. degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in 1988. He did his internship in surgery at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. Upon completing his internship in 1989, Dr. Mitchell was called to duty to serve as the general medical officer aboard the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln during the Persian Gulf War. After completing his general medical office tour, he began his neurosurgery residency at the National Naval Medical Center. Dr. Mitchell completed his neurosurgery residency in 1997, and has served as a staff Neurosurgeon locally at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth. He is presently working as an attending staff at Sentara Norfolk General. Dr. Mitchell's interests are general neurosurgery and complex spine surgery.
