This event occurs daily, every weekday.
The Old Dominion University Alumni Association will host its third annual Monarch Cobia Classic July 11-13, 2019 at Long Bay Pointe Marina in Virginia Beach. As was done in 2018, the tournament will partner with the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS) to advance its cobia research. The goal of the partnership is to create the largest cobia tournament on the east coast.
Through the philanthropy provided by our Signature Events, such as the Monarch Cobia Classic, and friends of the University, the Alumni Association currently provides 38 scholarships to students annually and programming for alumni across the globe.
The competition will consist of two days of fishing with lines in at 6:00 a.m. Weigh stations at Long Bay Pointe and Salt Ponds marinas will be open 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. each day. Anglers will compete for over $25,000 in cash prizes, reels, rods, outdoor equipment and more. The entry fee per boat for the Monarch Cobia Classic is $400 before July 2.
The tournament will conclude with a Dock Party on Saturday, July 13, at 6:00 p.m., at Ballyhoos with live music by BJ Griffin and the Galaxy Groove and special guests including the Redskins Cheerleaders. Guests who are not registered for the tournament have the opportunity to purchase tickets to the Dock Party for $50. Tickets must be purchased in advance at www.odualumni.org/dockparty19.
