On Friday, Nov. 20 FNV, a brand focused on increasing consumption and sales of fruits and vegetables among teens and moms, brought together a host of companies, athletes, social media stars and celebrities—including First Lady Michele Obama—to ODU's Ted Constant Convocation Center in Norfolk. The event, called FNV Life, was hosted by radio personalities Shaggy (from Z104) and Dominique (from 103 JAMZ) and featured live musical performances by Estelle, Jordin Sparks and Ashanti, stunts and challenges led by social media stars including Paul Rabil, Cowie Sisters and Nash and Hayes Grier, and remarks from Jessica Alba, Gabrielle Union and Michelle Obama.
"These folks are all on Team FNV because, like me, they love fruits and vegetables," the first lady exclaimed.
FNV is led by the Partnership for a Healthier America (PHA), devoted to working with the private sector to ensure the health of our nation's youth by solving the childhood obesity crisis. PHA was created in conjunction with—but independent from—Michelle Obama's Let's Move! effort.
Obama gave some examples of how FNV has been on the ground here in Hampton Roads in ways like sponsoring the Norfolk Tides and the Old Dominion Monarchs football team. "They're driving a mobile vegetable van through your neighborhood that's kind of like an ice cream truck for vegetables," she said. "They're even putting a lot of cool ads on your buses."
Two new FNV partners were announced Friday: Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield—the largest health insurer in Virginia—and Spartan Race—the world’s leading obstacle race company. They join Team FNV’s founding members, which include Avocados From Mexico, Bolthouse Farms, the Honest Company, Produce Marketing Association, Produce for Better Health, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, sweetgreen, Victors & Spoils and WWE.
The brand launched in two locations only—Fresno, Calif. and Hampton Roads. "FNV could be anywhere in the world right now," Shaggy noted, "But they're here in Hampton Roads."
