After awaking from the most pleasant food-induced sleep I’ve experienced, I prepare for the next meal, breakfast served in the elegant Kessler Ballroom. I dine on fresh fruit served in martini glasses, delicate glazed pastries, orange blossom mascarpone crepes with strawberry compote and Swiss rosti topped with a sunny side up egg served with elderberry and peach mimosas.
This glorious feast provides energy for a VIP architectural tour of Biltmore Estate. The 250-room estate is America’s largest home and was first owned by George Vanderbilt who worked with the top architects and craftsmen in to create this astounding piece of history. It took six years and 1,000 men to create this masterpiece, and it was completed in 1895. The intricate details throughout Biltmore’s structure are astounding from the gargoyles that were sculpted exactly where they are today to the 1700-pound chandelier which hangs from a single bolt.
Today Biltmore attracts about a million visitors a year with Christmas being the most popular time to visit. Nearly as popular is the Biltmore Winery, America’s most-visited winery located in Antler Hill Village. This charming village is home to a farmyard with family-friendly animals, a creamery that sells baked goods and ice cream, adorable shops and restaurants.
I head back to the Grand Bohemian for a final meal at Red Stag Grill and am especially delighted by the restaurant’s posh backlit menus. After treating myself to one last indulgent meal (and one last decadent dessert) I soak in the massive tub in my room before crawling into the lush matelasse linens on my cozy bed and drifting to sleep listening to the soothing sounds of Kessler Inspiring Tunes playing softly on the Bose. Tomorrow it’s back to the simple life, but for one more night I’m dreaming about the life of simple luxury I’ve experienced in the beautiful city of Asheville.
