Coastal Virginia Scholarships

If you have a graduating high school student under your roof, now is the time to start looking into financing the next step of their road to higher education. Obviously, the first course of action is to look into securing student aid through the U.S. government. The next step is to look for scholarships and grants to fill in any gaps not covered by loans.


Did you know there are several grants and scholarships available specifically for residents of Hampton Roads? There are a number of sites that will allow you to scan for information on available scholarships and grants, so you’ll have to do your homework. The Hampton Roads Community Foundation is one great place to find local scholarship information.


To get you started, here are just a few of the opportunities we found on for Hampton Roads residents:

Bettye J. Patten Scholarship

Awarded to entering freshman with an excellent high school record in academics and with financial need, who is a resident of Newport News, Poquoson or Hampton.


Burroughs Memorial Scholarship

Awarded to students from the Tidewater area.


Drescher Scholarship

Awarded to students who demonstrate the qualities of leadership, achievement, character and affability. Must be a resident of Hampton Roads.


E. David and Carolyn H. Blechman Scholarship

Awarded to an incoming freshman, with preference given to those students whose career goal is health care. Must be a resident of Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson or York County.


Edward W. Wolcott Scholarship

Must be from south Hampton Roads area. Must be in good academic standing and show leadership abilities.


Frank and Marie Biechman Scholarship

The recipient must have attended public Peninsula high school, have been accepted as a freshman at CNU and exhibited financial need.


Frederick Foundation Scholarship

Scholarship awarded to a resident of South Hampton Roads, Virginia.


Hampton Roads Horticultural Society Scholarship

The recipient must be a junior or senior whose field of concentration is horticulture, have a GPA of 2.5 or higher and be from the Peninsula or Gloucester.


Harry B. Davidson Scholarship

Based on financial need, preference is given to students from the Tidewater area of Virginia.


John Brooks Scholarship

Awarded to a high school senior with a 2.5 GPA. Applicants need to be freshman or sophomore ranked and a resident of the Peninsula area.


Julius Conn Memorial Scholarship

Recipient must be a full-time student, with demonstrated financial need, a graduate of a Newport News high school who participated in interscholastic athletics.


Lion Douglas C. Petty Memorial Scholarship

Recipient must be a student with need who is a Newport News resident with a GPA of 2.0 or above.


Lorraine and Louis Drucker Scholarship

The scholarship(s) will be awarded to a resident of Hampton, Newport News, York County or Williamsburg, based upon financial need.


Norfolk Foundation Scholarships

Scholarships are available for graduate and undergraduate students from Hampton Roads.


Peninsula Council of Garden Clubs Scholarship

The recipient must be a resident of the Peninsula (Newport News, Hampton, Poquoson, York County), and a junior or senior whose field of concentration is horticulture.


Peninsula Rotary Club Endowment Scholarship

The recipient must be a Peninsula resident who is a junior with a GPA of at least 3.0, have financial need and be enrolled as a full-time student.


Raymond B and Dorothy Rouse Bottom Scholarship

Awarded to students who demonstrate financial need with preference given to student from the Peninsula area of Virginia.


Tidewater Builders Association Scholarship

Offers financial assistance for students who want to continue their education and are a senior in high school in South Hampton Roads.


Tidewater Virginia Alumni Chapter Scholarship

Awarded to incoming freshman from the Tidewater, Virginia area with at least a 3.0-projected GPA.


V. Thomas Forehand, Jr. Scholarship

Awarded to an undergraduate student from the city of Chesapeake, who attended Oscar F. Smith High School or Nansemond-Suffolk Academy.


Virginia Beach Chapter Scholarship

Awarded to high school seniors who have a 2.8 GPA and are residents of Virginia Beach.


William Wayt Royall, Jr. Scholarship from the Rotary Club of Newport News Endowment Foundation

Recipient must be from the city of Newport News, have an outstanding academic record (3.0 GPA or better) and have financial need.
