Meet Kelly Lane

Interview conducated at Taste Unlimited in Newport News.

Name: Kelly Lane

Residence: Virginia Beach

How long have you lived in Hampton Roads? Twenty years.

What is your favorite book? The Tolkien trilogy—Lord of the Rings.

Name one of your talents. Riding horses. I ride at Kentucky Farms off Oriana in Yorktown. I’ve been riding about 25 years so I should be better than I am. I do endurance riding, which is riding 50 plus miles in a race.

What is something that makes you nervous? Mean people. Right now the political climate has people incensed. People speak before they think it through. I just don’t like it.

Where is your favorite place to shop in Hampton Roads? I like TJ Maxx. I also like the Peninsula Town Center in Hampton. The Barnes & Noble is huge. I also like going to the Cinebistro and enjoying a movie and a cocktail. And I love Hayashi too.

What is your favorite band? Butch Walker. His genre is pop and rock. He’s a cool guy. He travels the country, lives in Los Angeles but is from Atlanta. He is known for singing and producing. He produced Pink.

Where did you attend college and what did you study? I went to Radford University and I studied public relations and advertising. That’s not the area I work in now. I am currently the Director of Human Resources for a local company.

If you could be any type of shoe, then which would you be? I would definitely be something high, probably a stiletto Jimmy Choo boot. It’s sleek, elegant and sexy.

Where is your dream place to live? This is going to sound ridiculous, but I have traveled a lot and seen a lot of places. I would live in Charlottesville, Virginia. It’s horsey, a college town, has lots of culture, shops and great restaurants. It’s a progressive community. Before I may have said San Francisco but I would like to be surrounded by the country.

What is something you are looking forward to? The Urbanna Oyster Fest in the Northern Neck. Every year it’s a big party. We stay on a farm that overlooks the town where people camp. It’s just one big party and the oysters are fantastic. We get to see friends and load up with wine.
