Meet Lucian Mattison
Interview conducted at Borjo Coffeehouse, Norfolk
Name: Lucian Mattison
What is your occupation? I’m a grad student at ODU, getting my MFA in poetry.
How long have you lived in Hampton Roads? I’ve only been here since August. I’ve lived all over, but I most recently lived in Gainsville.
How do you take your coffee? Black.
What is the last movie you saw in the theater? The James Bond movie, Skyfall.
Name something you always have stocked in the fridge: Hot sauce—for everything, pretty much.
If you were a fictional character, who would you be? I’d have to go with Wolverine because he just does his own thing. Plus he has the claws. I was a big X-Men fan growing up.
What is one of your biggest accomplishments? I climbed Mt. Kinabalu on the Island of Borneo.
You’re stuck on a deserted island and can only have three things with you (besides food and water). What are they? Music, endless paper and pens, a library.
If you could go to lunch with any famous person, who would it be? I’d like to go to lunch with Che Guevara. That’d be an interesting conversation. I’d like to hear what he’s got to say about his philosophy.
If you had the power to solve any current issue, what would you fix? I’d wipe out the AIDS crisis.
Who’s playing at your dream concert? Well, it’d have to be a small venue. Juana Molina—she’s an Argentine folk artist—would be the opening act, and Radiohead would be the main event.
