Head to Head

Each season has their own special flavors, and in autumn, we love pumpkin and the warm spices that often accompany it. A few years back I had my first pumpkin ale, which came from (the local) Williamsburg AleWerks, and was sold. Rich, fragrant, flavorful, this beer immediately won me over as a fall favorite. Since then, I’ve enjoyed others, including Pumpking from New York’s Southern Tier Brewing Company. We offer those here for your enjoyment; both are available in Hampton Roads. - Patrick Evans-Hylton

Contestant 1: Williamsburg AleWerks Pumpkin Ale, 7.3 ABV

A beautiful amber color, this beer includes pumpkin, spices, brown sugar, Munich and Victory malts, and hops. Rich and easy drinking, look for pumpkin pie spice and even elements of pie crust and caramel in the flavor and nose of this medium-bodied brew.
