Today Syria quickly welcomed a call from Russia to place Syrian chemical arsenals under international control, then destroy them to avert a U.S. strike but did not offer a time frame or any other specifics. The statement by Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem appeared to mark the first acknowledgement by Damascus that it possesses chemical weapons and reflected what appeared to be an attempt by Syrian President Bashar Assad to avoid the U.S. military attack. Murder suspect told deputies he “snapped”

Travis Baker, 34, entered the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office Sunday afternoon and was distraught and crying. He told deputies he went to see his children at his son’s birthday party, but when he got to the house his girlfriend turned him away. Baker told detectives he “snapped and shot her in the head.” Deputies responded to the home on Urbanna Road and discovered a woman, 33-year-old Wendy Billups, who had been shot in the head. She was pronounced dead. Baker was charged with first degree murder and use and display in a threatening manner of a firearm while committing or attempting to commit murder. (Source)
