Newport News Shipbuilding offers severance program

In order to reduce their company’s salaried workforce and remain competitive in the marketplace, Newport News Shipbuilding is offering a voluntary severance program to 1,200 eligible employees. Those interested in participating will be able to apply now through September 28. Salaried NNS employees in Hampton Roads who will be 60 or older by the end of the year are eligible to apply. Young girl found alive among dead bodies in France

A British family that had apparently been vacationing in France was found murdered on Wednesday, with the exception of two young girls, one age 7 who was had been injured and was nearly unconscious and caught the attention of a British cyclist. The British cyclist discovered a French cyclist dead at the scene and three people inside a BMW car, also dead. The windows of the car had been shot multiple times. The other girl, age 4, wasn’t discovered until at least eight hours later, hiding beneath one of the murdered women’s legs inside the car. The 7-year-old girl has been taken to a hospital, and the 4-year-old was taken to a children’s psychiatric unit. The parking lot where the bodies were discovered is not regarded as a dangerous area, and investigators are working to figure out who was responsible for the murders and why the killings have happened. High risk of rip currents today

The National Weather Service has released a warning regarding the high risk of rip currents today  until 8 p.m. along the coast of Maryland, Virginia and North Carolina. Rip currents flow away from shore quickly and can make it dangerous for swimmers to get back to the beach. To escape a rip current, swim parallel to the shore until you are able to make it back to the beach. (Source)

James Franco sued by professor

Actor, writer, director James Franco has been sued by a former professor for defamation after Franco told reporters he didn’t want to “waste my time with a bad teacher.” Franco’s former NYU film professor, Jose Angel Santana, told news sources that the statements made against him were “disparaging and inaccurate public statements” and that since Franco missed 12 of his 14 classes, Santana was outraged that someone with that attendance record at NYU had the audacity to make those statements.
