Shots fired near Capitol

A female driving a black sedan rammed a barricade near the White House today, stemming a chase that ended 16 blocks away. As a result, the woman (whose name has not been disclosed) was shot as she got out of her car, and the U.S. Capitol went on brief lockdown. The woman is believed to be dead, but a child with her was not injured. She had hit a squad car on Pennsylvania Avenue one block from the Capitol, injuring an officer, but she kept driving until she reached Maryland Avenue and 2nd Street NE near the Hart Senate Building, where the shooting occurred. It is thought that the confrontation was an isolated incident and not part of a larger threat. (Source)
