Dozens killed in Iraq bombings

The most devastating attack occurred in Kut when two car bombs exploded in a busy commercial street killing 17 people and wounding 49 others. Two bombs in Baghdad killed nine people and wounded 21 others in a shopping district. In 2013, more than 6,000 people have been killed in Iraq. A sixth of those deaths came in September. (Source)

“Baby Hope” has a name

A nameless little girl, known posthumously as “Baby Hope,” can now be recognized by her birth name, Anjelica Castillo. Police arrested the girl’s cousin, Conrad Juarez, 52, on Saturday for the murder of Castillo in 1991. The case had remained open since police found the decomposing body of the 4-year-old girl in an ice chest along the Henry Hudson Parkway in New York. Every year, on the anniversary of July 23, police would canvas nearby neighborhoods in hopes for answers. An anonymous tip called in after this past July’s canvas led detectives to Anjelica’s sister, to her mother and eventually Jaurez. (Source)
