Seth MacFarlane to host the Oscars
The Academy has decided that a whole cast of characters will host the Oscars this year—all in the person of Seth MacFarlane.“We are thrilled to have Seth MacFarlane host the Oscars. His performing skills blend perfectly with our ideas for making the show entertaining and fresh,” the event’s producers said in a statement on Monday. “He will be the consummate host, and we are so happy to be working with him.” (Source)
U.S. Manufacturing Grows
After three months of decline, the Institute for Supply Management’s index of manufacturing activity grew this month. The index came in at 51.5, beating 49.7, the consensus expectation among economists surveyed by Bloomberg. (A number greater than 50 indicates overall expansion.) (Source)
Housing for Disabled Adults Planned for Virginia Beach
A proposed live-work-play community called Vanguard Landing has been proposed to be built in Virginia Beach by 2017. Plans have been in the works for months, and already organizers have lined up support and donations. Mayor Will Sessoms attended the launch and praised the project. Sessoms said the city wants to help in a public-private partnership, possibly by offering Vanguard Landing an interest-free loan. (Source)
