George Zimmerman arrested

George Zimmerman has been arrested following a domestic violence incident involving his girlfriend. Authorities haven’t said exactly what happened, but the disturbance was at a residence on Topfield Court in Apopka (Seminole County). Zimmerman will be booked into the John E. Polk Correctional Facility. (Source)

Woman gets 47 years for murders at Virginia Beach Rally’s

Cheari Edwards was sentenced this morning to 47 years in prison for her role in the robbery and fatal shooting of 27-year-old Alphonso White and his brother, 19-year-old Michael Johnson, during a Jan. 8 robbery at the Rally’s on Lynnhaven Parkway. Edwards pleaded guilty in July to two counts of first-degree murder, three counts of using a firearm and one count each of conspiracy and armed robbery. Her co-defendant and boyfriend at the time of the incident, 23-year-old Deandre Dunnaway, also pleaded guilty. As the shooter, he faced two capital murder charges and received two life sentences without parole in addition to a third life sentence and 23 years in prison. (Source)

DNA helps crack 40-year-old rape case

Today a grand jury indicted Danny S. Edwards, 63, of Wight County, on two counts of rape. The alleged incident occurred in 1973 when the female victim was 13. The victim came forward, and DNA testing aided in the indictment. This may be the oldest case ever to be prosecuted in Isle of Wight. Edwards was being held at the Western Tidewater Regional Jail without bond, but Edwards was granted a $10,000 bond and was released Friday. (Source)
