Tropical Storm Andrea moves toward Hampton Roads

The Coast Guard advises boaters to stay off the water as Tropical Storm Andrea heads to Hampton Roads. The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for this area, and the forecast calls for parts of Virginia to be drenched by up to 4 inches of rain and winds at 40 mps. Tropical Storm Andrea wasn’t expected to strengthen into a hurricane, but forecasters warned it could cause isolated flooding and storm surge before it loses steam. (Source)

Virginia health officials warn consumers about berry mix

Virginia health officials are warning consumers not to eat certain lots of frozen Townsend Farms Organic Antioxidant Berry Blend sold under the Harris Teeter brand in Virginia, as they might be linked to an outbreak of hepatitis A infections. To date, no hepatitis A infections have been linked to the berry mix here in Virginia, but 61 cases are being investigated in other states. (Source)

Santa Monica College shooting: At least 3 victims; campus on lockdown

Santa Monica College was placed on lockdown after a gunman opened fire Friday. Officials said multiple victims were injured. The shooting was reported at the school campus shortly after noon. Witnesses reported hearing shots in the school’s library. Sheriff’s officials have confirmed multiple victims. Authorities are concerned the shooter may have left several bags behind. Sheriff’s arson and explosive teams were called to the area. A second shooting, believed to be related, was reported a few blocks east of the school's campus on 21st Street. A witness said that a man dressed in black got out of a vehicle at a nearby intersection and started shooing indiscriminately. (Source)
