Tropical Storm Andrea cancels Parade of Sail

With the threat of the season’s first tropical storm, Festevents announced this afternoon that the Parade of Sail scheduled for Friday at noon has been canceled. Some 200,000 people are expected to attend over the weekend, and all events are being shifted. All ships that were scheduled to be open to the public on Saturday will open at noon. Other canceled attractions include All American Cornhole Blast, OBX Jet Pak, Craft Beer Tasting, Omar’s Fountain Café, Harborfest Floating Party Dock, Harborfest Town Point  Market, Waterfall Swing, Radio Harborfest, Harborfest TV, Global Inheritance Energy Playground, TRASHed Recycling Store, Virginia’s Finest Pavilion, Merbellas-See Under the Sea, Penny Farther and Hammock Hangout.  The activities on Saturday and Sunday remain scheduled as planned. Paris Jackson recovering after apparent suicide attempt

Paris Jackson is recovering and getting help after an apparent suicide attempt. Sources say Jackson was rushed to a hospital early Wednesday morning after an apparent suicide attempt at the family’s Calabasas home. The L.A. County Fire Department described the call as a “possible overdose” and said the patient was taken to a hospital. The incident comes as Paris Jackson and her family and AEG are locked in a legal battle over the death of her father, Michael Jackson. (Source)

Teen shot in Chesapeake expected to survive

A 19-year-old man shot Wednesday night in the South Norfolk section of Chesapeake is expected to survive. He was hospitalized after being found lying in the street in the 2500 block of King Court. Police were called to the address about 7:45 p.m. to find him with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. He was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with injuries that appeared to be life-threatening. The man has undergone surgery and is now alert but reluctant to provide information. (Source)
