Employees fight would-be robber at Virginia Beach shop

A robbery almost occurred at Jersey Mike’s Subs on Northampton Boulevard in Virginia Beach last night as employees were getting ready to go home. A man whose face was partially covered with a red bandanna sprang through the back door and hit assistant manager Lenarus Parker. Manager Mike Lambeth picked up a mop and smashed the would-be robber’s face with the handle, then wrestled the assailant to the ground. Another employee joined in the fight. The fight continued outside, and finally after employees stopped hitting the attacker, he limped away, leaving his backpack and cap. Anyone with information on the suspect can call Virginia Beach Crime Solvers at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP. (Source)

1,200-year-old royal tomb found in Peru

Gold and silver riches from more than a millennium ago were found in Peru within what appears to be the first unlooted tomb of South America’s Wari civilization. The find was unveiled at a news conference at the El Castillo de Huarmey archaeological site north of Lima. The tomb could open up an unprecedented window on the mysterious Wari, a culture that predated the Incas. Also found were rows of human remains—mostly women, wrapped in textiles and buried in a seated position. In three side chambers, archaeologists found three queens and their treasures along with 1,000 artifacts including gold and silver jewelry, silver bowls, bronze ritual axes, an alabaster drinking cup, knives and even weaving tools made of gold. Hernandez probed in two more murders

Former New England Patriots player Aaron Hernandez faces charges in a murder last week in North Attleborough, and he’s also being investigated in connection with a July 2012 double murder in Boston. Two law enforcement officials said investigators now believe that Odin Lloyd, the man Hernandez is charged with killing on June 17, may have had information about Hernandez’s role in the slayings of Daniel Abreu and Safiro Furtado. These new revelations raise the disturbing prospect that Hernandez might have been playing football games last season with the Patriots after he had participated in a double murder. (Source)
