Apartment fire in Chesapeake

An apartment building caught fire this morning around 10:30 a.m. after a blaze which apparently began in a dumpster spread to the nearby building. Firefighters helped one person to vacate the building, and no injuries were reported. The blaze was extinguished by 11:05 a.m., and 16 people are being displaced as a result of the fire. (Source)

U.S. Gulf Coast recovers from Isaac

The first hurricane to hit the U.S. this year is remembered for striking on the anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, and this time, the city of New Orleans prepared with their new $14.5 billion flood control system. Though the system proved to be a success, the hurricane caused widespread flooding and property damage after lingering near New Orleans for nearly two days. Across Louisiana, Mississippi and Arkansas about 600,000 homes and businesses were still without electricity this morning as utility crews work to restore power. (Source)

Clint Eastwood stretched the truth at the Republican National Convention

During Clint Eastwood’s 10-minute speech at the Republican National Convention Thursday night, he made some misleading and/or inaccurate statements as he pretended to berate President Obama on stage. Some of the statements were related to the war in Afghanistan, unemployment rates in America and Air Force One. (Source)
