Isaac now a Category 1 hurricane

The city of New Orleans has prepared for what is now a Category 1 hurricane by installing pumps and outfall canals capable of pumping massive amounts of water from city streets into a nearby lake. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineer recently installed the pumps that are built to pump out 19,140 cubic feet of rainwater per second—enough to fill an Olympic-sized pool in less than five seconds. Gabby Douglas tells Oprah she felt bullied at Virginia Beach gym

Olympic gold medalist Gabby Douglas appeared on Oprah Winfrey’s television show “Oprah’s Next Chapter” Sunday night and said that she felt isolated at Virginia Beach’s Excalibur Gymnastics and therefore left to train with coach Liang Chow in Iowa. Coaches at the gym denied these charges of bullying and racism and said that they don’t understand where any of this is coming from. (Source)

Sentencing in Virginia Beach boy’s death

Christy Lamour and Che Hazell, found guilty of child abuse and second-degree murder in Lamour’s son, Christian’s, death in April 2011,will be sentenced today. Christian died of a blunt force trauma from a blow to his stomach and suffered for 19 hours before dying on a way to a hospital, according to testimony before the trial. Judge Les L. Lilley is expected to hand down the sentencing this afternoon. State guidelines call for them to serve between 13 years and nine months to 23 years in prison. (Source)
