Rite-Aid shooting results in one man dead and one charged with murder

Police charged Bernell Duvall Benn, 41, of Norfolk, with murder for fatally shooting Ramon P.Colorado, 42, a former Norfolk deputy sheriff inside Norfolk’s Rite Aid in the 3600 block of Tidewater Drive. Benn said in an interview today that he was defending himself after he was pepper-sprayed and threatened by Colorado. Colorado sprayed Benn with pepper spray, and Benn drew a handgun and began firing at Colorado, who drew his handgun, returned fire and collapsed. Both men were transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with gunshot wounds. Colorado died at the hospital, and Benn was treated and is now being held without bond. (Source)
