Deadly Iraq bombings target café, school and playground

At least 16 people were killed and 41 wounded on Monday in a suicide bomb attack on a crowded café in Balad, part of the worst wave of violence in Iraq in around five years. Two roadside bombs—one planted near a playground and another near a school—also killed six people and wounded dozens, some of them children, in the town of Muqdadiya. Those blasts underlined a shift in tactics by suspected Islamist militants, who are targeting cafes and recreational areas used by families and children. The latest bloodshed came as al Qaeda claimed responsibility for the weekend bombings across Iraq which killed dozens of people during Eid al-Fitr, the festive end to the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, heightening fears of even wider sectarian slaughter. Sinkhole collapses villa near Disney World

On Sunday night vacationers at Summer Bay Resort, Florida were awakened to the frightening sound of their building collapsing and parts of it being swallowed by a 100-foot sinkhole that also endangered two neighboring resort buildings. By early Monday morning nearly a third of the structure had collapsed. All 105 guests staying at the villa were evacuated, as well as those in the neighboring buildings. No injuries were reported. The villa was reported as a total loss, and inspectors are determining whether the other two buildings near the sinkhole would be safe to re-enter. (Source)

Woman may be connected to 3 robberies

Police are searching for a woman who implied she had a gun and demanded money from the SunTrust in the 100 block of E. Little Creek Road shortly after 1 p.m. today. She was described as white, heavyset, with blond hair in a ponytail. She appeared to be in her mid-20s and got into an older green 4-door vehicle, believed to be a Nissan Sentra, with a spoiler and six-spoke wheels, driven by a black man with a goatee. She matches the description of the suspect in a robbery in Chesapeake less than an hour after Monday’s robbery of the SunTrust. Anyone with information should call Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
