Two charged with arson in Eastern Shore fire

Two people questioned overnight after a fire on Airport Drive have been charged in the blaze, and Virginia State Police said they are confident the two are responsible for the majority of fires set since November. Tonya Susan Bundick, 40, of Parksley, was charged with one count of felony arson and one count of felony conspiracy to commit arson. Charles R. Smith III, also known as Charles Applegate, 38, of Parksley, was charged later today. Both are being held without bond in the Accomack County Jail. Further charges are expected. (Source)

Deputy’s gun found at local mall

Norfolk police will not press charges against a deputy who left his gun inside a dressing room at The Gallery at Military Circle this afternoon. Officers were dispatched to the mall after a customer reported to loss prevention at Macy’s that a gun was in one of the dressing rooms around 12:40 p.m. Officers recovered the gun, which was loaded. The owner of the gun, a deputy, contacted Macy’s as soon as he realized it was missing. Disciplinary action was taken against the deputy. (Source)

NRA details school guards plan

With the Senate set to debate gun control legislation next week, the NRA made good on its promise to develop a plan to train and arm security guards at every school in the nation. The recommendation was the culmination of three months of work by a task force led by Asa Hutchinson, a former Republican congressman from Arkansas, who unveiled the plan before a packed news conference with unusually heavy security presence.
