Man accused of impersonating officer

Thomas Kent VanKempen, 54, of Chesapeake, is accused of impersonating a police officer and making a traffic stop in Virginia Beach on April 5. A woman was traveling the 200 block of South Independence Boulevard when a white pickup truck pulled in front of her and slammed on the brakes. The victim said the suspect approached her in her vehicle and displayed a gold badge in a leather wallet, asking for the victim’s driver’s license, telling her she was driving too fast. The suspect left the scene after the victim told him she knew a lot of police officers. VanKempen was arrested and charged with impersonating a police officer. He has been released on bond. (Source)
