Giving Back Awards 2013 Winners

On behalf of Old Point National Bank, we at Coastal Virginia Magazine would like to thank and congratulate all the participating non-profit organizations this year for their service to the community.

The Coastal Virginia Giving Back Awards began last year with the idea that we all know local individuals and groups that deserve recognition for their outstanding generosity of time, talent and treasures to the betterment of the community. Now in its second year, with its own presenting sponsor, the Awards are one of our most anticipated features of the year.

For the 2013 awards, a call went out to the public in June for nominations for the Giving Back Awards. All nomination forms and applications that fulfilled the criteria moved onto our voting rounds, which were ran throughout the month of August.

Limited to one vote per email address, we asked our readers to vote for their non-profit choice each week, until finally, out of 209 organizations, we were left with our top 25, and consequently, our top five and top three.

We are pleased to recognize our top three organizations of the year: the LCpl. Cody S. Childers Memorial Fund, Samaritan House and The Chesapeake Humane Society. Please view the video below--which was unveiled at our awards reception on Thursday, October 24--to learn more about these incredible organizations:

We would like to thank representatives from our top 25 organizations for attending our first Coastal Virginia Giving Back Awards reception. Heartfelt appreciation also goes to Ferguson Bath, Kitchen & Lighting Gallery, Swan Terrace, Colonial DJs and Ice Art, Inc. for making the event a success. Below are photos from the event, including pictures of each of the non-profits receiving their award.
