Local Love: Choosing a Location for Your Williamsburg Wedding

This guest post is brought to you by Shayna Walker of Williamsburg Wedding Design.

Trying to find your perfect Williamsburg wedding venue? Here is an insider’s guide to properties from Jamestown to Yorktown and everywhere in between!

Colonial Heritage Club

Historical Favorites

If history is your passion, Williamsburg is your premier wedding destination. The resort collection at Colonial Williamsburg includes the crown jewel of venues, The Williamsburg Inn, as well as the Oval Gardens, Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Building, Fountain Garden and the Williamsburg Lodge.

In Yorktown, the Historic Freight Shed offers waterfront comfort and shares a nautical flare with the nearby Waterman’s Museum. Both are available to host special events.

To complete the “Historic Triangle” check out the intimate church on Jamestown Island which is set on one of the region’s most beautiful waterfronts.

If rustic is more your speed, you might choose the Williamsburg Winery with its dark wood, chandeliers and real operating vineyards lining a gravel approach. The Winery now features Wedmore Estate, a European-style Bed & Breakfast for total relaxation.

Campus Favorites

The College of William & Mary calls many of its graduates home each year to celebrate their nuptials. The Chapel of the Sir Christopher Wren Building (a.k.a. Wren Chapel) needs no embellishment to make it a stunning ceremony site. The Alumni House with its spiral staircase and open air brick terrace is within convenient walking distance of both the chapel and the popular Hospitality House, which also hosts events in its ballrooms.

Near the campus, you’ll find the glass walls of the Williamsburg Community Building, which rests in the residential and civic center of the City of Williamsburg. The newer neighborhood, New Town, is home to another pretty and accessible center, Legacy Hall. Both are attached to large lawns where you can hold a ceremony or erect a tent.

For small weddings, charming bed & breakfasts offer great locations and local hospitality. The Williamsburg Manor B&B has a great location and richly appointed rooms…not to mention a specialty snack bar for guests that’s to die for!

Golf Courses and Clubs

Anyone who has vacationed in the area knows that our golf courses, country clubs and resorts are world-class. Ceremony and reception sites on uninterrupted waterfronts are available at Two Rivers Country Club and Kingsmill Resort. The clubhouse at Colonial Heritage features a wraparound covered terrace, nearby waterfall and gazebo. The new Settlement at Powhatan Creek has both a lake, and a beautiful outdoor fireplace that would add warmth and grace to any evening cocktail hour.

Of course, there is no lack of hotel space in Williamsburg, and many properties feature ballrooms and convenient in-house catering. The young-at-heart might even enjoy the well-appointed conference center at the Great Wolfe Lodge.

These are just some of the sites available to couples planning a Williamsburg wedding. Which will you choose for your special day?
