Something New: Cake Decorators of Tidewater
Ruffles, flowers and fondant—oh my!
Need inspiration for your wedding cake or just want to see how some of those amazing cake techniques are done? You’re in luck because the Cake Decorators of Tidewater are holding their 27th Annual “Cake Show” this weekend.
And what would a cake show be without wedding cakes! Professionals and amateurs will be competing neck and neck for a spot in the judge’s hearts during the Wedding Cake Competition.
The judging will begin on Saturday, Oct. 9 at 10:15 a.m. and competitors will be judged on a number of aspects, including theme, difficulty of techniques, creativity, use of color and more! The cakes will then be on display for the rest of the show. This year’s theme is “Inspired by…”—so stop by to see what these competitors were inspired by for their fabulous cakes!
When: October 9th & 10th, 10 a.m.–5 p.m.
Where: Calvary Christian School System, 2329 East Little Creek Road, Norfolk, VA
Includes: Divisional and wedding cake competitions, vendors, demonstrations, classes and door prizes
Admission: $5 for a one-day pass (ages 12 and up) or $8 for a two-day pass (classes are extra)
Demonstrations include stenciling, cookie decoration, chocolate roses, steampunk designs and more! See the full schedule here.
Classes include a variety of techniques from gum paste flowers to modeling chocolate and from bridgework to color-mixing. If you’re interested in learning a technique for an upcoming cake project or just for fun, visit www.cdotcakeshow.com for class descriptions, registration forms and prices.
Cake Decorators of Tidewater was founded when Marilyn Chilton wanted to get together with other cake decorators in the area to share recipes and talents. The purpose of this non-profit club is to promote the art and enjoyment of cake decorating. To learn more about the Cake Decorators of Tidewater, visit www.cake-decorators.com.
