Aisle Style: Wedding Gowns on the Runway
If you haven’t picked your wedding dress out yet, it’s never too late to be inspired. While designers often tailor their runway designs for retail, it’s still fun to see what new trends are emerging and how creative designers can get with satin, tulle and lace. Here are just a few of the 2012 bridal gown collections that have recently made their way down the aisle – the runway aisle that is!
As you look at dresses, whether in a designer fashion show or at a local shop, begin to think about what elements you might like in a dress. For example, do you want strapless or have your heart set on having a long train? Remember to consider what style looks best on your body type. You may love a certain style, but another type of dress flatters you more, so look for a balance of these two elements when dress shopping.
Another thing to keep in mind is the location and theme of your ceremony. If you’re having a casual-elegant wedding at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront, you may way to pick something that has movement to it so you can walk through the sand and flow nicely if the wind picks up. You may even want to look for something that won’t drag if you decide to go barefoot.
On the other hand, if you’re having a formal wedding in a church in historic Williamsburg or downtown Norfolk, you might opt for something with a long train, a lot of layers or lots of lace.

In addition to her use of lace that looks both delicate and modern, don’t miss the veils and headpieces shown on her models.
Her dresses range from short and sweet to long and classic, playing with different textures and layers.
Vera Wang’s newest collection is a mixture of organza, bows, layers and pleats.
The newest styles mix traditional elements with a contemporary spin. Note the lace appliqués, hand embroidery and the juxtaposition of fitted bodices and flowing trains.
