Swept Away: Coucoon’s first annual bridal event

A 1997 Rolls Royce limousine parks out front the pristine salon. The deejay greets me at the receptionist’s desk while his mash-ups roar down the salon’s lush hallways. Entranced by the white chocolate, pearl embellished cake pops, I know Coucoon Signature Salon & Spa's bridal event will sustain a constant state of swooning.

Glass tables on either side of me are lined with bridal magazines and butterfly-shaped chocolates embossed with gold dust. Cabinets that typically showcase Coucoon's signature shampoo line glisten as Isabelle Krupnick's bridal accessories bejewel the shelves.

The hairstyling area is transformed into a combined appetizer, cocktail and hair/make-up station. I feast on a slice of Fire & Vine's apple-goat cheese pizza. The bartender whips me up a peach Bellini, and I am fully equipped for my bridal itinerary.

Lita’s mini chair massage leaves me at ease from the long week. Moments of relaxation are a must for any bride. I promptly visit Ashley, the salon’s esthetician, for a skin consultation before I’m whisked away to envision my wedding day makeup.

Models adorned in intricate lace wedding gowns peruse the floor, weaving through the crowd and revisiting the makeup and hair consultants to cater their looks to their dress changes. From ethereal, romantic locks to a saucy updo, Nick leaves the models and brides-to-be a work of art with each visit.

Penelope Stevens, director of Coucoon Signature Salon & Spa, presents me with a “swag bag” to hold all of the evening’s goodies. I cross my fingers and fill out a slip in hopes of winning door prizes from an adored dozen of local vendors.

The planning for this event started after wedding planner Nancy Rosen visited Stevens at the salon, and the two agreed a unique bridal event was in store. “I feel that being an area that families come to for enjoyment and the beaches, weddings are one of the most important events in this area,” Stevens explains. “People look for the best in Hampton Roads for their special day, and by bringing the best all together for one event in a comfortable atmosphere, people feel more open to ideas.”

Coucoon is already brainstorming for the next event and hoping to turn this into an annual affair.
