The HUB: Hampton Roads' First Food Truck Park
I’m sure you’ve heard whispers of the new—and first—food truck park in all of Hampton Roads! Lunch plans? Dinner plans? Head to The HUB!
This past weekend was The HUB's grand opening, and I had to take a peek. Located at 712 Atlantic Avenue between 8th and 9th Street at the Virginia Beach oceanfront, the HUB is a lively spot where are all of your food cravings can be met, and then some!
Locals and tourists were entranced, entering in mobs through the pearly white gates to see what The HUB was all about. Sunday afternoon, the park was in full swing as DJ Doddie spun the tunes, corn hole was played and the hungry sought out their meals on wheels. There were familiar trucks like Twisted Sisters Cupcakes and Malbon's BBQ The Flying Pig (more on them here), while I discovered new ones like The Thirsty Frog, Lobsters2u and Seoul757Taco. Once you grab your grub, you can take a seat at their beer garden or in one of the beautifully designed picnic tables hand-painted by local artists.
At the oceanfront where the summer tourist season often means long lines and traffic, the HUB is the ideal place for grabbing a quick lunch, dinner or even a coffee or adult beverage. It's truly ideal for the whole family, the foodies and for exposing smaller food ventures to the locals.
But wait, there’s more! There will always be something new to feast on while at The HUB. Throughout the summer, The HUB will rotate food trucks as well as local artisans, artists and live musicians.
While there is on-street parking parallel to the food truck park and in the 9th Street Garage, many visitors parked their bikes and saddled up on the park’s fence.
The HUB is more than equipped to show the summer vacation visitors—and the locals new to food trucks—that we’re more than a beachy tourist spot, rather, we are a local community of entrepreneurs that have a knack for good eats.
After June 9th, they plan to be open Tuesday through Sunday, hours to be determined. Check their Facebook page for the latest updates. For now, head to their “Meat Me In The Middle” event this weekend from Friday to Sunday to celebrate sandwiches!
