Shore Drive Farm Market
More often than not, my friends in Virginia Beach ask me how it feels to live so far from everything. Really, it’s quite the opposite. It seems Shore Drive has been a hotspot for new eats in the last year with the opening of Pleasure House Brewing, Bay Local Eatery and Dish. On top of the dining scene, there are picturesque trails weaving through First Landing State Park along with the beauty and convenience of the Chesapeake Bay—a plus to avoid summer’s oceanfront traffic.
Ladies and gents, welcome Shore Drive Farm Market, the newest farmers market to come to Hampton Roads! As a local food lover and Shore Drive resident, this addition has been a long time coming. While I will continue to frequent Old Beach and other local markets, a new market certainly adds to the mix and only further strengthens the rising sense of community in the widespread city of Virginia Beach.
Despite the 90+ degree sweltering morning, everyone flooded to the parking lot of the Lynnhaven Square Shopping Center for the market’s opening weekend. There’s a wide variety of vendors offering everything from local meat to antiques; some were familiar and some new waiting to be discovered. Below are just a handful of the vendors:
Pendulum Fine Meats offers local, ethically-raised meats. On Saturday they also brought items from some of their favorite local vendors like beans from Three Ships Coffee Roasters and kombucha from Mountain Culture Kombucha. Pendulum also makes mouthwatering sandwiches.
Lynnhaven Coffee Roasters is a new small batch coffee roaster located off of Shore Drive.
Welton’s Seafood Market—I’m sure you know—is a local favorite. Saturday they had thick-cut tuna steaks and baskets of clams and oysters, just to name a few items.
Shore Drive Farm Market is located at 2947 Shore Drive in the parking lot of the Lynnhaven Square Shopping Center. They are open year-round, Saturdays from 9 to noon. Visit their Facebook page to see this week’s vendors.
