The Shanty in Cape Charles

Near the southern tip of the long, thin peninsula that is the Eastern Shore is the quaint town of Cape Charles. Folks sit in the gazebo overlooking the Chesapeake Bay to watch the sun dip below the horizon, stroll along the store-lined streets to patronize locally-owned shops, and sate their appetites with seafood fresh from surrounding waters.

At The Shanty, saying the seafood is fresh and local is backed up with a list of watermen they do business with. It’s also evident in the quality of the dishes on their menu.

During these last days of summer, dine on the patio and enjoy some of that fresh catch. Our picks for sharing with family and friends: a dozen (or two, or three) Hungar’s Creek raw oysters, a basket of oysters fried golden brown or a platter full of steamed clams, washed down with a Virginia beer or wine.

The Shanty is located at 33 Marina Rd., Cape Charles, Virginia. Call 757-695-3853 or like them on Facebook to learn about their events and specials.
