Three Spring Beers to Try
It’s spring, and it’s only natural that as the season lightens up, we do too in many ways, including what we eat and drink.
We asked three top brewmasters in Hampton Roads for their picks:

“Our current seasonal is Diablo Rojo Imperial Red Rye. Named for a carnivorous squid, this ‘red devil’ boasts a malty Vienna base backed up by spicy rye and 97 IBUs of hop punch. Once fermentation is complete, we dry-hop with a special blend to give it a lasting floral aroma.”
Note: the next seasonal is Oceanus Aurum Honey Rye Saison
Porter Hardy
1309 Raleigh Ave., Norfolk

“My favorite Smartmouth beer for spring is Safety Dance Pilsner. Its faint spicy, herbal aroma reminds me of the scent of spring, and its crisp and clean finish really match the snap in the air.”

“Our Vienna-style Spring Lager is a rich amber-colored and medium-bodied beer with a distinct, malty character and a thick, creamy off-white head. Classic European malts provide its smooth malt flavor and color while traditional German hops lend well-balanced hop bitterness and a noble hop flavor. It finishes with a slightly dry blend of floral and malt notes.”
